Every day new patients arrive at our facility. We see over 3,000 patients annually. Over 135 different species come to us for care. In an effort to tell their stories of survival and highlight the diverse number of species that we rehabilitate, we try to share some of their stories here. Shot Merlin
Sadly, radiographs confirmed that he was shot. This is a crime as he is a federally protected bird. We report these cases to wildlife authorities. He has spinal trauma and his condition is guarded. Here we are checking his tail wrap. This lightweight covering keeps his tail feathers from being damaged. It is essential to protect raptors from damaging their tail feathers when they are in ICU. Damage can cause a longer and unnecessary stay in rehab. Status: Released
